Overview of the Inventory Settings

Learn how to configure inventory settings in FieldInsight, including visibility, technician access, tax, currency, and barcode options.

A key aspect of using the Inventory feature in FieldInsight is understanding the available settings that allow you to configure it to fit your business needs. There are both general settings and a selection of features that your business can toggle on or off.

Access the Inventory Settings

To access the Inventory settings:

  • Click the βš™οΈ (Settings icon) in the top-right corner.

  • Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

  • Navigate to Inventory β†’ General

Show or Hide Inventory Elements

FieldInsight supports different inventory elements. The default ones, which are enabled by default, are: Services and Products. However, there are additional inventory elements that can be enabled or disabled based on your business needs.

When these options are enabled, they will be accessible through the Inventory menu or in the Inventory page via the tab menu.


Technician Options

In some cases, you may want to hide certain inventory information from technicians if it is not relevant to their work. The following settings can be configured:

  • Show pricing information for technicians - Displays the pricing of all inventory items for technicians.

  • Show pricing on printed jobs sheets - If inventory items are included in a job, they will be shown on the printed job sheets, including pricing. (Read more about printed job sheets in our help documentation.)

  • Show stock on technicians and units - Allows technicians and units to view stock levels.


Tax & Currency Information

Setting up default tax and currency information for your inventory is a crucial step. The following options are available:

  • Tax rate - Sets the default tax rate for all items in quotes and invoices when "Add Tax" is set to Yes. The system will automatically calculate and apply the tax.

  • Tax rounding method - Select how the tax calculation should be rounded.

  • Currency - Set the currency your business operates in. Supported currencies include: AED, AUD, BHD, CAD, EUR, GBP, IRN, JPY, NZD, SGD, USD, and ZAR.

  • Tax Label - Choose the tax label displayed on documents. Options include:
    Tax, GST, or VAT.


Other Inventory Settings

FieldInsight also provides additional general inventory settings:

  • Items added from the job page of the scheduler app are billable by default if the billable field visible - Ensures that items added to jobs are set as billable automatically.

  • Show barcode: Allows you to associate a barcode with products

    • Barcode Types: elect which barcode type will be used. Supported formats include: Code 128, EAN, EAN 8, Code 39, Code 39 VIN, Code 93, Codebar, UPC, UPC E, I2OF5, and 2OF5.

  • Add Square meters placed as billable item on confirm docked - Items marked as square meters will automatically be shown as billable.

  • Enable Transactional Inventory -

  • Show item description expanded - Ensures that full item descriptions are displayed rather than being truncated.
