How to Log a Pre-Start Test (Technician Guide)

This guide will help technicians log a Pre-Start Test, raise a defect if needed, and verify that their log has been recorded successfully.

When you are working in the field using a Technician logins, you will be able to perform Pre Starts on Internal Assets/Plants/Units.

Before a mobile Pre Start begins to work, it needs to be setup on the Scheduler's side first. When Pre Start has been configured successfully on the Scheduler's end, Technicians and mobile app users will be able to access Pre Start effectively.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Log In to FieldInsight

  • Open https://app.fieldinsight.com/ on your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox).

  • Enter your username and password.

  • (Optional) Tap “Remember me” for faster access in future.

  • You may save the site to your home screen using your browser's save function.


Step 2: Open Weekly Jobs and View Internal Assets

  • Once logged in, your home screen will show the Jobs View.

  • Click on the ‘Plant’ tab to show internal assets assigned to you.


Step 3: Select an Asset and Tap 'Pre Start'

  • Tap the Internal Asset you’re working on.

  • Click the ‘Pre Start’ button to begin the process.


Step 4: Tap ‘Start Test’

  • Select the pre-start test shown for the selected asset.

  • Tap ‘Start Test’ to continue.


Step 5: Complete the Pre-Start Test

  • The runtime will be auto-filled — update it if needed.


  • Complete all checklist questions.

    • Selecting "Fail" on any checklist item will trigger a defect popup.

  • You'll be redirected to defect screen to enter the defect details.


Step 6: Raise a Defect (If Required)

  • If you clicked Add Defect or selected "Fail", you’ll see a defect form.

  • Fill out:

    • Defect Name, Description, and add images if applicable.

    • Estimated hours, products needed, and (if resolved) resolution details and photos.

    • Set Priority and Status.

  • Tap Save.


Step 7: Verify the Test and Runtime

  • After saving, you’ll return to the Internal Asset screen.

  • Tap the Asset ID to review:


    • The updated Runtime

    • Pre-Start test result and status

    • Any active defects

You may click into the logged test for further updates if needed.
