See this table to understand the different shift rules and their behavior when an employee's start time on a given day falls into that shift.
Another way of looking at it.
When an employee's start time on a given day falls into a :
NORMAL shift rule - then that shift, and other shifts that are Normal and Overriding will be applied.
Overriding shift rule - then that is the only rule that will be applied
Exclusive Overriding shift rule, - then that is the only rule that will be applied
Exclusive shift rule - then that shift, and other shifts that are Normal and Overriding will be applied.
SAMPLE AWARD
For the purpose of this guide, we will show you a continuous 12-hour shift (with the Lunch Rule enabled to auto-deduct lunch hours) to demonstrate the overtime and overlapping between the shifts.
The award above has 4 different shifts on a Normal Day
4:30 AM (Normal Shift Rule)
If someone works from 4:30 AM to 4:30 PM, then this is how the Award interpretation looks like.
If someone works from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM, then this is how the Award interpretation looks like.
Notice how it ignored the 12:00PM shift since the shift started at 4:30 AM shift which is a Normal Shift Rule
6:00 AM (Normal Shift Rule)
If someone works from 6:00AM to 6:00 PM, then this is how the Award interpretation looks like.
When you start on a Normal Shift Rule; this rule, Normal rule, and overriding rule will be applied in the calculation. However, if the whole duration of the time doesn't overlap to the other applied rules, then it will just apply this rule.
If someone works from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, then this is how the Award interpretation looks like.
If someone works from 10:00AM to 10:00 PM, then this is how the Award interpretation looks like.
If you start from 10AM, 8hours from that will be 6PM. Then, the 6PM shift rule will be applied since it's an Overriding shift.
12:00 PM (Exclusive Shift Rule)
6:00 PM (Overriding Shift Rule)
