Assign a Default Service Item to a Staff Member

Learn how to assign a default service item to staff in FieldInsight to streamline timesheets, quoting, and pay accuracy.

If a worker is consistently responsible for a specific type of labour, you can assign them a default service item. This is particularly useful when creating timesheets, as the correct service item will be automatically selected—making it easier to generate quotes for clients and helping ensure your staff are paid the correct rate.

Before getting started, make sure all labour service items have been created in the system. Once that’s done, you can begin assigning default service items to your staff.

How to Assign a Default Service Item

To assign a default service code, start by accessing the staff member’s profile:

  • Click on the orange cog in the top right corner and select Staff.

  • On the Staff page, click the name of the staff member you want to configure.

  • Scroll down to find the field labelled Default Service Code.

  • Select the relevant item from the list

  • Click Save Staff to apply your changes.

Now, when the staff member logs a timesheet, the selected default service item will be pre-filled. They can still change it if needed.
