How to Log a Pre-Start Test (Scheduler Guide)

To understand how to log a pre-start test, raise a defect, and schedule the next service test for an internal asset in FieldInsight.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Log in and Navigate to Internal Assets

  • Log in to your FieldInsight Scheduler account.

From the left-hand menu, go to Assets to open the Assets List page.

Step 2: Filter Internal Assets

  • Use the Search bar and filter for Internal Assets.

  • Click on search to open the list of internal assets you wish to log a pre-start test on.

Step 3: Select the Asset

  • Select any asset you wish to log Pre-start for.

  • The Runtime section shows the lates runtime of the Asset.

Step 4: Select Pre-Start Test and Job

Log Pre-Start

  • Inside the asset profile, click the Log Pre-Start button to begin logging a test.

  • Choose the relevant Pre-Start Test.

  • Select the Job you wish to associate with this test. Or click on No to proceed without selecting a job.

Step 5: Complete the Checklist and Runtime

  • The current runtime and unit of measure will be pre-filled.

  • Complete the checklist. The Next Service Test will auto-populate based on this runtime (you may override this).

    • Selecting "Fail" on any item will trigger the Defect popup.

  • Update the status of the test.

  • Click Save when done.

Step 6: Raise a Defect (If Applicable)

  • If you selected "Fail" or clicked Add Defect, you will be redirected to a new page to log the defect.

  • Fill in:

    • Defect name, description, and optional images

  • Priority, status, and (if resolved) resolution info and images

  • Click Save to record the defect.

  • Filter the Test Results tab to show Pre-Start or Service Tests.

Step 7: Verify the Asset Info

  • After saving, the Asset Information page will display:

    • The updated Runtime

    • The new Next Service Test (auto-calculated)

    • The latest Pre-Start Test Result. You may also filter the status for the due tests in the runtime section to keep everything in check seamlessly.

Step 8: View or Add Defects

  • Go to the Defects tab within the Asset Information Page.

  • You can also navigate via Assets > Defects in the main menu.

  • Click on a defect to view/edit or Add a Defect directly without logging a test.

Step 9: Schedule Next Service Test

  • In the Runtimes section, set-up the next job schedule you wish to by clicking on Create Job option of the relevant test.


Step 10: Add Job Details

  • You will be redirected to the Create Job page.

  • Fill out the job details (e.g. date, technician, notes).

  • In the Assets tab, the asset and its planned test should already be populated.

  • Click Save to create the job.
