When using the Asset Management feature in FieldInsight, you'll come across a few important terms. Understanding these will help you manage your assets more easily.

  • Asset: A unit or a piece of machinery owned by your customer or internally owned that you test, install, repair, or service.

    • Asset Type: A classification of assets that share similar characteristics or purposes. An asset type can be associated with the relevant test templates.

    • Asset Category: A group of asset types.

    • Sub-Asset: A child asset of a parent/primary asset. This is useful if an asset has too many parts to manage.

    • Parent Asset: A primary asset record.

  • Asset Test / Test Template: A checklist containing the detailed steps to perform a test on an asset. An asset test can be associated with asset types, frequency, and Job types.

    • Service Test: A checklist for doing maintenance tests that can be planned out through the use of the Preventative Maintenance Contract or by manually scheduling to a job.

    • Pre-Start Test: A checklist for doing daily checks on an asset where you can keep track of the asset's runtime counter e.g. odometer, operating hours.

  • Defect: A flaw, imperfection, or issue in an asset that diminishes its functionality, value, or performance.

    • Raised Defect: A defect found by a technician when performing a test on an asset within the context of a Job.

    • Planned Defect: A defect that is planned or scheduled to be fixed by a technician within the context of a job.

    • Confirmed Defect: A defect that is found by a technician but already exists as a record in the system. Instead of creating a new defect, a technician can confirm an existing defect within the context of a job.

  • Preventative Maintenance Contract (Maintenance Agreement)
A feature that allows you to set up routine service schedules for your customer assets based on test frequencies. A routine service can then be scheduled as a job.

    • Routine Service: A group of tests to be carried out.
